Currently, the `populate_db` tool doesn't create historical messages by default, which means (among other things?) that the bookends feature is not well covered by developers and testing.

For high-dimensional data this gets esp interesting... think subway maps for NYC/London/Tokyo - they have an "example station" and then label it. I doubt this is fully automatic, but then...
