Right now I'm really have no time to maintain this plug-in. PRs are welcome.
As far as I can imagine the implementation, making a GUI in IDEA is much simpler than reading a JSON... For JSON configuration you may want to have a look...
BTW, last time I tried it and saw that it actually works with Less and SASS (not sure about SCSS). Could you please describe your case?
