Updated package to use MUI v5

This PR is 8 months old, and would allow me to leverage this package in my project. Anything the community can do to help get this merged?

Only "end character" triangles are missing.

Closing this-- it was actually a number of concurrent issues, related to some bugs that are already open. Hopefully I can open a PR in the next few days.
