You might want a few more unit tests, and there's a possibility this doesn't cover all execution contexts - though it meets all mine. I've added a new acceptance spec.

HashWithIndifferentUsage is slow, and requires large ActiveSupport dependency

We've noticed performance issues when profiling slow actions. Significant time is spent in HashWithIndifferentAccess. Also, HashWithIndifferentAccess is the only reason ActiveSupport is required.

I added ad-hoc expression parsing.

This makes mongoid-mapreduce useful for a much broader range of use cases.
