I'm using .Net Core 3.1 and I get those Exceptions as well, which really slow down the Diff.

I am not sure if it is right to merge against the Develop branch. Master is ahead of Develop by 2 commits.
I would use index_select() to get tensors by index, apply transformations and copy back with index_put(). https://pytorch.org/docs/stable/generated/torch.index_select.html

I am also strongly voting for quicker releases. I need older bugfixes that are not yet released.
I have also encountered this hang and had to stop using this library unfortunately.
