Agree - exposing the initial builder should be enough. I'm still exploring options. Safe publication is something the library user should handle anyway.

How about wrapping the cause of the ExecutionException in a RetryException? (and hide it completely from API consumers)
I've never used django-jack with Apache so I can't really help you. How about using gunicorn? It should be easy.
