I honestly have been trying to figure out this hack for like an hour and I still can't get it to work
Maybe have a check, where it tries to download just one HDF, and if that doesn't work it will go to a new data source
or, just permanently switch to LPDAAC

Another thought on this - use lat long for the centroid, that way it's more easily understood

yeah just the fire stats, I didn't do ecoregions or anything
maybe just have an option, e.g. --nostats, then it'd only create the perimeters with the start and end dates
option for no stats in the shapefile
