In terms of CloudFormation, the LoadBalancerNames property is listed as "Update requires: replacement", hence a new ASG is required: http://docs.aws.amazon.com/AWSCloudFormation/latest/UserGuide/aws-properties-as-group.html#cfn-as-group-loadbalancernames Alternatively it's inferred in the ASG docs here: http://docs.aws.amazon.com/AutoScaling/latest/DeveloperGuide/as-register-lbs-with-asg.html
