I see what you mean and you're right but I don't like the idea of declare all the time the apiPath variable. If there is another way to avoid ABViewController...
In "api.html" found this line : gdir = new GDirections(null,null); and replace it by : gdir = new GDirections(map, document.getElementById("directions")); Then go inside and add : That's all
