Please delete your configuration and try again. The old version have some bugs, and probably won't be fixed (or at least not soon). This configuration should be in ~/.config/turpial

Can you check GDM version on Ubuntu is allowing to switch to X11 desktops? Also, you can try lightdm that support both sessions (X11 and Wayland)
