I see your point, but I actually think this is on purpose. Personally I prefer them to be in the navbar, but would be interesting to see what other users...
When I add these, ympd fails to start for me, since it cannot change the user (drop priviledges).
No, but I figured it out in the meantime: the user name has (of course) to be the same as in /etc/defaults/ympd for $YMPD_USER which in my case was mpd

Oh, forgot about that. I now made the letter filters work on all types at the same time: directories, playlists and songs.
On a related note: the UI in the browser is updated everytime as well, even if there were no changes. I found this to have a big impact on battery...
