It's wild speculation on my part, but it seems like it could be related to deb being a hallium device rather than a legacy device adopted from the Ubuntu Phone...
It's a bit on the hack-y side, but [this solution to a similar issue in another RN package](https://github.com/yamill/react-native-orientation/issues/290#issuecomment-425794048) worked for me.
