Here we are used to both Pandoc (https://pandoc.org/MANUAL.html) and MyST (https://myst-parser.readthedocs.io/en/latest/intro.html) for compiling Markdown to Html and other formats. There may be some reusable component here?!

I mean “as close as LaTeX as is reasonable”. MathJax Support is quite good. Both Pandoc and MyST rely on LateX (or a subset of) syntax.
