How did you create that folder in first place?
can you try to delete that folder using any other file explorer? I'm not really sure how could this problem be fixed.
You can select files by clicking on the icon of the file/folder.

You can make archives by selecting the files/folders you want to archive, then long click on one of the files selected, and choose compress. Though yes it can be improved....
