Phew, I sorted it out. Basically the xml config file had entries that referenced invalid apps. Microsoft's OneDrive moved a bunch of my files from C:\Users\xyz\Desktop\ to C:\Users\xyz\OneDrive - alteryx.com\Desktop\...
