Please note, that there is also #96816 which sets the NodePath of the ViewportTexture incorrectly when you instance a scene containing a Node that uses a ViewportTexture into another scene....
It is not possible to determine if the ViewportTextures really "work" in-editor given the screenshots provided. The editor will still show a non-purple image even if the setup becomes invalid....
