I'm pretty sure as of the latest update, it _does_ work as intended.

You've enabled these switches in the plugin settings? It works perfectly for me. 

I'm on Windows running 0.15.9. Do you have any other plugins? Perhaps a separate plugin is conflicting? Or even a theme? Try the default theme and disabling all other community...

I did a bit more testing, it seems that pretty much any character from the Characters app has this issue. If I copy plain text first, the symbols will display...

As discussed previously, that takes a lot of work, and it requires either getting the TypeScript transpilation working, or simply maintaining a JavaScript-only version both of which are... complicated
