AFAICT this is not fixed at all. Especially not in the linked commit. The man page for `renderd.conf` is still mentioned, while it doesn't seem to exist.

Honestly I don't remember anymore. Could just be that I needed it to be root anyway, and just didn't want to deal with the complications of running in user mode....
