sorted windows subsystem for Linux you require docker desktop downloaded on your system and need to enable WSL intergration  I'm still unsure about the VM issue though

127.0.0.1:8080 is a local ip adress, so unless the server is on your laptop it won't work, you need to put the ip adress of the server in the client
