Do we actually want direct interpolation from red to purple? Wouldn't it make more sense to have nearest neighbor or something like [hqx](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hqx) for categorical data instead? Also non-linear interpolations...

The atmosphere package also has an error (that prints "Unable to parse state ..." to the console) that was already fixed here, so we really need to update it
