I have the same problems on a Xiaomi Notebook Pro (i7-8550u, 16gb ram, MX150), after updating all of the packages through the AppCenter. I'd be happy to provide any logs...
It seems like it was the proprietary nvidia driver. I updated to the latest version in the appcenter, and haven't had any issues since.
