Topic icons are confusing
I don't like the way the icons are implemented ATM. It is really confusing. For example in the image below, I AM subscribed, it IS solved, it IS, sticky, it IS locked, although (at least for me) the icons look the other way around.

I suggest to do it as following (example for the subscribe icon):
Unsubscribed:
Subscribed:

I have thought about this as well. I'm not sure the best way to solve it however. it is difficult because it is hard to decide if it is a 'status' icon (showing the current value) or an 'action' icon (showing a potential action).
for example the buttons at the top of this page are 'action' buttons (unwatch, unstar) but they have helpful text. further up, there are 'new repo' 'account settings' and 'sign out' icons. The old 'text based' menu was 'action' oriented - not status oriented.
the other icons are action icons - print, email, move, delete
for reference, I switched from all text because the text didn't fit on one line in the menu. Another option could be text-based submenus for the moderator or something.
So, while I agree with you that it is confusing, I'm not sure exactly what the best solution is. I don't like your suggestion any more than the current situation because it just reverses the problem. I am open to other suggestions.

I saw this in PhpMyAdmin which is a nice solution maybe

hovering over the icon changes the icon to the action. so the icon combines both a status reflection and the potential action.
