Looking to take over as maintainer for this software.
Hi @zhrexl. I hope all is well with you. I'd like to thank you for all the hard work you put into the 2nd iteration of DOYS. It is a fantastic extension!
I'm interested in taking over as maintainer for this software. Please contact me back so I can get permission from you to do so. In the meantime, I have forked all branches of this repo and am working on support for GNOME 42 through 47 with a single scripted install based on the user's version of gnome. I also plan to get v46/v47 approved by extensions.gnome.org, and ultimately would like to unify the whole thing. If you return, we can simply merge my changes back into your repo. If not, and if I do not hear from you within 10 days, then I will assume that you have abandoned the project.
Please contact me at your earliest convenience. You can reply here or you can email me at [email protected].
For the rest of the community: I use this extension every day and I don't want to see it neglected. I've invested a lot of time over the years testing/modifying various versions and am willing to put in a lot more time as maintainer. If anyone else has any objections to me taking over as maintainer, please reply. Thanks everyone!
Hello everyone. Unfortunately, I did not hear back from @zhrexl so it appears that he has abandoned the project. I've gone ahead and set up a new repository: https://github.com/daveprowse/DrawOnYourScreen3 and included all of the pull requests and comments that I could find over the past 6 months. Consider joining me there!
Here's what I've done so far:
- Incorporated all of the open commits I could find including:
- Arrow tool (thanks @extrememicro )
- White palette issue (thanks @adaschma )
- Made the latest GNOME v47 version backward compatible with v46.
- Configured releases and installation methods for GNOME 42 through 45.
- Set up a bash script that will automatically identify the user's version of GNOME and install the appropriate version of DrawOnYourScreen,
Finally, I have been in communication with extensions.gnome.org. If we don't hear back from the original author by 11/27/2024, then the project will be transferred to me. If that happens, I'll begin the process of E.G.O. approval for the latest version of this extension.
Still a work in progress, but it's coming along... Join me at the new location so that we can continue this awesome work and grow the community. 😁 Thanks!
Hi @daveprowse,
My mailbox was full so I didn't receive the notification from this issue, sorry about that.
First of all, I was indeed looking for a new maintainer and now I'm very happy that you are interested in it.
You have my full permission and gratitude to assume this project.
Finally, I'll archive this repo for now and hope I can make time to contribute to DOYS 3 in the future.
Again, thank you very much and good luck. if you need anything, my mailbox is now empty.
