More of a question because I may not understand the scope of this project.

Originally I wrote eww to this project because it uses analog stereo, but I have come around because it is nice supporting old protocols and having a work around. So re-reading I want to know if I have the correct idea about how this works. Also I want to maybe clear up my ideas about what someone else had asked. I have 2 devices that we plug an older ipod into. In each case we plugin the old ipod in using a usb-A to 30pin adapter. From my understand I should be able to use that same usb-A to 30pin adapter and use my android phone like I had used the ipod? Correct? I plug in the usb to serial device and the audio jack into the android phone righ ? and then the usb-a of the 30 pin into the device I want to use it on. Like a car with a usb port that does not seam to understand google auto. Or an older stereo where the usb-a only understands ipod proto?

I should be able to plug a usb-c docking station into my phone and use the audio jack on that docking station or another usb audio that android recognizes and plug in the usb serial device into the docking station and use PodEmu on my newer android device as long as my android recognizes and sees those devices and knows how to use the docking station. I should be able to test with a usb keyboard and test the audio with some old speakers. Then if that works any of the serial devices you mention should work the same.

Also wondering about newer devices (stereo's and cars) if I plugin the usb-a to 30 pin even newer devices should recognize it as an ipod right? So if said newer device should come with a usb-c port and I use a usb-c to isb-a adapter and plug in the usb-a to 30 pin adapter into that it might already support this as an alternate way of plugging it in. Although newer devices should recognize an android device directly.

Another question doesn't one of the pins on the 30 pin connector supply 5 volts? can't I use that to feed power as an input power to power everything and even feed power into the phone?

I could not find the original breakout of the 30 pin but I found another one from elabbay that looks like it might work we will see when I get it. The usb to serial adapters are easy to find. This will be a fun build I hope it works as I had described above. Thank you for developing this project.

It will be nice to be able to plug my phone into my wifes car and have it pause on amazon music when we stop the car vs a direct analog in with no control.

If you have USB-A to 30-pin cable, you cannot use it with this project, because it uses usb D+ and D- lines which this project "don't understand". The exception are KIA and Hyundai cars, where they used USB-A slot, but the communication inside is not usb standard, but serial standard.

Regarding feeding your phone from 5V out og 30pin port - yes, but it might not be enough to charge phone properly. All depends on the specific "implementation". By default it was 500mA which is too small for modern phones. However, implementation may vary...
