Option to Disable Update Check/Notification
It would be great to have an option to disable the automatic update check or at least the notification. When using the AUR package on Linux, updates are handled automatically, so the notification at startup is unnecessary and requires an extra click to dismiss.
Thank you for considering this!
That is true. Maybe a notification itself still might be good to know however, so you know you should upgrade your package using AUR?
Thanks for the quick reply!
This is not really necessary in my case. I use Manjaro (based on Arch) and get an automatic notification when package updates are available form the package manager itself. I guess there are other users who have such a setup or who update regularly anyway. Of course, for some users a notification might be a good idea, so I think it should be made optional. ;)
OK make sense. Maybe I should just introduce an optional build flag to disable this check (and thus the pop-up) and set this flag to true for the AUR package builds.
IMHO, a setting to (de)activate update checks gives the user the freedom to choose if he wants it. Otherwise tomorrow another user will appear and prefer the update check. :D
But for me personally a build flag to disable the check would be completely fine. 👍🏻
Thanks again!
I see, yes an option/setting should also just do.
Just know I didn't forget you, I'm just busy migrating from GTK3 to GTK4 first.. 🤞🏽
Part of the GTK4 migration, I also added a new build argument CHECK_FOR_UPDATE, which can now be set to off: -DCHECK_FOR_UPDATE=OFF.
This will become the default flag I set in the pkgbuild under Arch Linux. Also you are able to control this option later during runtime via the Preferences menu (see bottom option):
I will roll-out WineGUI v3.0.0 soon.
v3.0.0 is released. AUR is updated! Closing ticket as resolved.
