Feature Request: Support Multiple Windows VMs
Allow setup with multiple source VMs to combine with software that runs in older windows only w10, w7 wxp, etc.
That’s an interesting idea, but I’m a bit hesitant since it would require reworking large parts of the project. Running multiple concurrent VMs could also be problematic for users on less powerful machines. My concern is that this might drift into feature creep and impact the project’s overall stability. In many cases, legacy Windows applications run more reliably under Wine. Have you had a chance to try that approach to see if it meets your needs?
Hello. thank you for your time. I think there's a place. sometimes it is not about much older versions of windows, like it would be windows 10 vs 11 a good example. but it might actually be the same version of windows but for some reason we might want to have isolated. for example a windows VM with work related credentials vs a windows VM for personal use.
I think any approach might work in this sense, like managing to have 2 config files and always pausing a machine when the other one is called or warning the user about which machine is being called.
A good example is, my employer tracks everything about the host machine public IP locations/connections so I cannot risk to use any VPN service on the VM I use to access microsoft services for work, adobe, outlook, office, etc. Nevertheless in off work hours I might want to connect to a VPN and need some windows only software. to launch that software right now I'd have to uninstall winapps and swap the config and install winapps again. right now I just open that 2nd VM with full windows instead of the winapps rdp way. A way to do an intentional hot swap without having to uninstall and reinstall would be sufficient, or handling 2 installs with 2 configs and pausing each other so there's only one active VM at a time would be also great.
