  • [x] I have technical issue and have included the logs (see comment below)

Describe the bug

The Project Explorer feature is not working correctly in WSL. When attempting to use it (Alt+Shift+E), it only displays the text "Folder" with no actual files, directories, or folder structure visible. The explorer panel appears empty except for this single "Folder" label.

Root cause identified: Log analysis reveals repeated "Failed to convert path: Given path was not a UNIX path" errors, indicating the Project Explorer is failing to properly handle path conversion between Windows and WSL UNIX paths.

To reproduce

  1. Open Warp terminal in WSL (Ubuntu)
  2. Navigate to any directory with files
  3. Press Alt+Shift+E or use the command palette to open Project Explorer
  4. Observe that only "Folder" text is shown with no file tree or directory contents

Expected behavior

The Project Explorer should display the full directory structure, showing all files and folders in the current working directory in a tree view format, similar to how it works on native Linux or macOS.

Screenshots, videos, and logs

Screenshot showing the issue:

Image

The Project Explorer panel shows only "Folder" text with no file tree visible.

Logs: See detailed log analysis in the comment below with path conversion errors.

Operating system (OS)

Windows

Operating system and version

Ubuntu (WSL on Windows)

Shell Version

bash 5.2.21(1)-release

Current Warp version

v0.2025.10.15.08.12.stable_01

Regression

No, this bug or issue has existed throughout my experience using Warp

Recent working Warp date

N/A

Additional context

This issue appears to be specific to WSL environments. The Project Explorer feature is not properly handling path conversion between Windows and WSL UNIX paths, as evidenced by repeated warnings in the logs: "Failed to convert path: Given path was not a UNIX path"

Does this block you from using Warp daily?

No

Is this an issue only in Warp?

Yes, I confirmed that this only happens in Warp, not other terminals.

Log Analysis

I've checked the Warp logs and found repeated path conversion errors that appear to be directly related to this issue:

2025-10-19T08:45:00Z [WARN] Failed to convert path: Given path was not a UNIX path
2025-10-19T08:45:12Z [WARN] Failed to convert path: Given path was not a UNIX path
2025-10-19T08:45:12Z [WARN] Failed to convert path: Given path was not a UNIX path
2025-10-19T08:45:12Z [WARN] Failed to convert path: Given path was not a UNIX path
2025-10-19T08:45:12Z [WARN] Failed to convert path: Given path was not a UNIX path

These warnings appear when attempting to use the Project Explorer feature. It seems the Project Explorer is trying to process paths but failing to convert them properly in the WSL environment, which is why it only displays "Folder" without showing the actual directory structure.

Root Cause

The issue appears to be that Warp's Project Explorer feature is not correctly handling path conversion between Windows and WSL UNIX paths, preventing it from reading and displaying the file tree.

Environment Details

  • Shell: bash 5.2.21(1)-release
  • Current Working Directory: /home/robert

yeah since a few updates its like this - they fixed wsl when using wsl as standart shell, but then powershell and windows dirs are not shown.

they still have to manage to get this feature done for both wsl and native win at the same time
