HQPlayer disconnects briefly during sample rate switch – major interruption

Open janoschsimon opened this issue 1 year ago • 0 comments

Setup:

Mac mini M1, 8 GB RAM

macOS 15.3.2 (24D81)

Sequino with Lossless Switcher enabled

Apple Music as audio source

HQPlayer output via NAA

Issue: When playing tracks with different sample rates (e.g. switching from 44.1 kHz to 48 kHz), there are noticeable and quite long pauses during playback. These pauses are far beyond the "short interruptions" mentioned in the documentation and significantly disrupt the listening experience.

Additional observations:

During the sample rate switch, HQPlayer temporarily disappears from the top device list, as if the connection to the NAA is being reset entirely.

This suggests that a full teardown and reconnection is happening, rather than just a clean sample rate switch.

The issue seems to be most noticeable when using Apple Music, likely due to its frequent sample rate changes between tracks.

Expected behavior: Sample rate changes should ideally happen with minimal delay, without the need to reinitialize the entire HQPlayer/NAA connection. At the very least, the transition should be fast enough to avoid seconds-long audio dropouts.

Question: Is there any way to optimize this behavior on Sequino’s side? Or is this a current technical limitation when using Apple Music with NAA and HQPlayer?

Thanks a lot!
