Meaning of “I will mount the volume on other platforms”

I created an encrypted EXT4 volume on Tails, selected “I will mount the volume on other platforms” and tried decrypting volume on macOS.

It didn’t work… which is what I expected, but “I will mount the volume on other platforms” option appears to be misleading.

What exactly does “I will mount the volume on other platforms” do?
