Explorer windows are black at first (before they render correctly) Win11 23H2
When you open an Explorer window on Win11 (23H2) with Explorer Patcher installed, it might happen that the opening window is at first completely black before everything is rendered correctly (i.e. looks the way it's supposed to). It feels (and looks) like the computer is lagging behind, it just takes a while until everything is as it's supposed to be. However, this isn't related to old or incompatible hardware or problematic graphics card drivers. I've experienced this behavior on two completely different PCs.
As soon as you uninstall Explorer Patcher this "blackening" is gone.
Just don't use SysListView32
I don't. But with syslistview32 turned on, it's a little worse, you're right.
Please post windows version and build. You can find this by running winver. Please post explorer patcher version.
Please include what settings you changed in explorer patcher properties application.
Please include any other software you have installed that modifies the UI of windows.

Explorer Patcher versions: The three last versions at least.
I don't know how to post all the EP settings in a useful way but what I can say is that I've tried all kinds of different settings (on and off) in order to find out if one of the settings toggles that behavior but I've found no specific setting. It's enough to use EP with its default settings.
I also use open shell and I use Win11 with the classic theme. However, I've already ruled out that this problematic behavior has something to do with it.
Explorer Patcher versions: The three last versions at least.
Be specific for what EP version you've tried.
As for what settings you've changed in EP, screen shots are fine.
But I think the cause of this is enabling classic theme. Don't use that. That stopped being used back in windows 2000.
Well it's the latest version (and at least the last two before that).
I would have to make 9 screenshots for all the settings... But as I said, the default settings are enough to reproduce the behavior.
No, it's not because of the classic theme (which was btw available up to Windows 7, not 2000). I've already ruled that out (by disabling it and realizing that the problem still persists).
Try clicking on restore default settings, then restart file explorer in the bottom left. Then see if it still happens just in case you did change something.
Yes, you would have to make 9 screen shots. It doesn't take that long and it allows me to tell if something was changed.
And did you mean 22631.2861? 22831.2861 doesn't exist for a windows version. If so, please install the updates released this month (January 2024).
My bad. I did mean version 22631.2861
And yes, the problem also occurs when I completely reset EP the way you described it.
I don't really "dare" to install the latest updates, because of another problem with EP. https://github.com/valinet/ExplorerPatcher/issues/2676
I'd rather wait until a solution is found for the problem with the menu bar.

Just so you see what I mean...
It's not the end of the world, I just wanted to raise awareness.
Thank you for showing a video of what you mean.
W11 22H2 (22621.3155) w. latest version of explorer patcher and symbols, black screen on windows startup after login for ~20s. Menu will open, but desktop does not appear, mouse click results in #FU ding, win+x works IIRC but taskmgr wouldn't open.. etc

Check if symbols were downloaded: https://github.com/valinet/ExplorerPatcher/wiki/Symbols
Open up EP properties application and go to advanced, and check that Enable symbols download is ticked.
Symbols need to be downloaded for every new update of windows because they change with each new update for windows.
You can check using the console in explorer patcher. Open up the properties application for explorer patcher, go to advanced, and click on enable console.
This is not the only version that has done this, it's been at least two, and I've gotten notification of symbol download since update. Oddly the properties button is not in the menu, I have no idea how to get back into the settings anymore.
to run the explorer patcher properties application, run this from the run menu:
C:\Windows\System32\rundll32.exe "C:\Program Files\ExplorerPatcher\ExplorerPatcher.amd64.dll",ZZGUI
Then go to advanced and make sure the option Do not change the taskbar context menu (e.g. do not display the "Properties" is not enabled. Then you can right click on the taskbar and you should see the Properties option.
@dmiller423 Go to about in the EP properties application, click on restore default settings, reboot. Then if it is still happening, uninstall EP and install the latest pre-release: https://github.com/valinet/ExplorerPatcher/releases/tag/22621.3007.63.2_fb28688
Confirming this, along with the munubar disappearance issue! The only workaround so far that I use is to use ExplorerFrame.dll from build 22000 (21h2)!
