Asset handling improvements

Added some additional functionality to assets.rs This should make it easier to implement some common tasks with less boilerplate. e.g. #279

Also updated the static files example and some documentation to include the new functionality.

This shouldn't break anything, but please do a sanity check anyway. Otherwise it's pretty much harmless and could be merged without much fuss.
