Update for elementary 8
Hey, thank you! Looks like sensible changes but I don't currently have a system for testing.
Would you know whether we would have to pin the Debian builds to a specific branch to maintain support for the old version as well?
Currently, the indicator works, but there are some styling issues to fix. As for the Debian files, I'm not quite sure how to handle them.
Makes sense. I must admit that I'm not currently actively maintaining the project. I'd be happy to merge all changes you propose but we should probably make sure to not break existing installations in the process.
Would you be able to inquire on the elementary OS discord or check similar projects if there are precautions to be taken?

That's a great suggestion! As far as I can tell, I would (temporarily) require permission to create repositories in the Github organization. Alternatively, you could also fork the project to the orga and I add a notice to the README, but I think the former way is preferred.
