further geotiff testing

Wanted to ticket further testing of the geotiff work for Mapnik. Sorry for the delay in getting this to you. If you have time while you are in town, it would be great to sit down and talk about any further work or testing here.

I think our biggest question for further work was to test things out. Was there anything else you were thinking about here?

Case 1 - rfe folder

• Original file: AC12031.IMG
• Converted this file using gdal_translate to geotiff: AC12031-4326.tif
• Projected to Mercator using gdalwarp: AC12031-merc.tif
• Added color table using gdaldem: gdaldem color-relief AC12031-merc.tif rfe-raster-colortable.txt AC12031-merc-color.tif

Case 2 - ndvi folder

• This file had an existing color table, only projected to Mercator: wa812dif-merc.tif

Case 3 - other-ndvi folder

• Original file: 033_Sml_pd_ms_2011_5km.tif
• Projected to Mercator: 2011_5km_merc.tif
• Created vrt file using gdal_translate: gdal_translate -of vrt 2011_5km_merc.tif 2011_5km.vrt
• Added a color table to the vrt file
• Created new geotiff from vrt file: gdal_translate -of GTiff -co tfw=yes 2011_5km.vrt 2011_5km_color.tif

Case 4 - population folder

• Original file: apbfa10v3.flt
• Created a color table text file: pop-red-colortable.txt
• Then ran the following commands:
  • gdal_translate -of GTiff -co tfw=yes -a_srs EPSG:4326 mauritania/apmrt10v2.flt mauritania/mauritania.tif
  • gdalwarp -of GTiff -s_srs EPSG:4326 -t_srs EPSG:3785 mauritania/mauritania.tif mauritania-merc.tif
  • gdaldem color-relief mauritania-merc.tif pop-red-colortable.txt mauritania-merc-color-alpha.tif -alpha
