Network config for home routers with IPv6 but only IPv4 DMZ

Submitting this for consideration at the request of @zaibon after chatting about limitations on my home router, both to document the range of router idiosyncrasies and also see if there's a way to make my node publicly accessible.

I have an Arris SBG10 cable modem and wireless router combo connected to Comcast in the US. IPv6 is supported by default, but there's no way to provide public access to an IPv6 client without disabling the firewall altogether. The router does provide a DMZ option that's only available for IPv4. I'd like to make my node publicly reachable while retaining firewall protection for the rest of my LAN.

So these are my questions:

  • The node is assigned a local IPv4 address along with its IPv6 address. My impression is that 0-OS ignores IPv4 when 6 is available. Would it be possible to provide some kind of dual configuration in 0-OS so that I can put the IPv4 address in the DMZ and get public node access?
  • While it's not a long term solution, of course, is there currently a downside for my node or the Grid if I disable IPv6 entirely to take advantage of the IPv4 DMZ?
