Official standard maps for Race

Open Zatline opened this issue 4 years ago • 3 comments

As part of #2789, I’d like to start the process of creating a couple of official map candidates to get the implementation of Race another step forward. These maps should follow certain rules and designing guidelines like Vanilla maps go by such as using actual unhooks for unhookable sections rather than dirt or anything of that kind, having defined start/finish and checkpoint lines, using decent amounts of doodads that don’t distract from the race but give a tee-ish look and so on.

We also need guidelines on what makes a short run short and a long run long and define what can be in between of both extremes, something like:

short, no checkpoints, ~ time of 15 seconds medium, no checkpoints, ~ time of 20 - 50 seconds long, no checkpoints, ~ time of 1 minute or more checkpoint race, long, ~ greater than 2 minutes but under 5 minutes checkpoint race, very long, ~ over 5 minutes

Race track difficulty also plays a role and needs to be kept in mind somehow.

We'll need people to test maps and ideally experienced racers to give feedback on maps. If anyone wants to participate in the process of making and testing maps or help find already great maps, for example, sending me a collection of your personal favorite maps or a bunch of old classics from a long time ago (maps by Skizz by Loop and so on), feel free to contact me on Discord or link maps here, everything will be looked at and considered.

You are welcome to browse maps that are available on our unique-clan site for orientation. Each map also has a preview function, so you don't have to look it up ingame.

I am willing to help if needed.

Thank you, that's quite helpful.

Talk about specific maps should probably be done then in the maps repository.
