Hi guys,

In the past few weeks, btcmap.org/communities/map was available. I also worked on a map which does not use polygons but cities (even if there are different communities in the same city).

I just discovered that the community map is now available on btcmap (GG & thanks @dadofsambonzuki !); but I still think decentralization is important. That's why I share my code: btcmap test fr.txt You just need to copy it, modify your map (lign #1288) and your communities (lign #274).

I'll still continue to update french & belgium, on btcmap and communautebitcoin.fr, as I do since 2023.

Cheers guys

Yeah, the key issue is that we don't really have a good understanding of communities so we can't model them well. We also allowed many fake or shitcoin-centric communities, unfortunately.

Community map in its current form doesn't scale, since fetching all the bounds of all the communities is simply not that smart for a web app (standalone apps can bundle data so it's less of an issue).

I do agree with your choice of cities as a smallest and most fitting unit when it comes to communities. In my view, we should nuke all the communities which are larger than a city, because they lack the capacity to actually meet in the real world in any meaningful way, and maps are about real world. Higher level entities can exist but it would be better to think of them as federations of communities, we already have a way to group individual communities into community orgs

Nice.

We'll move to point representations of communities on the community map at some point (already have some local versions working) as it is cleaner than the polys. They can be shown on the community page for that community.

However, we're veering off topic here! The issue with Mull and FF (with privacy) still remains.

Is this issue now about communities or FF/Mull? Or are these related?

FF/Mull. Unrelated.

I am using firefox with some privacy tweaks on about:config.

Please let us know which tweaks exactly.
