Elaborate on explanation of split-apply-combine using Pandas

In the Episode 8 on "Pandas DataFrames" the lesson applies the method of "split-apply-combine" (please see this episode's section called: "Group By: split-apply-combine"); however the lesson does not explain in detail the steps and reasoning behind it. Since this is a common data analysis method, I recommend clarifying and expanding on this section.

A good example is demonstrated in the "R for Reproducible Science Analysis" as an entire episode, and we could include a similar explanation in this lesson.

thanks for the feedback and link, it's very much appreciated! We've got a few other tickets that mention improving the tense split-apply-combine section (#276 and #367) so it's great to have a positive example to look at. Would you be willing to submit a PR to improve this?
