Address skipped unit tests

As we've started being more diligent about running the tests, we're finding a lot of tests that are broken. They are being marked as .skip for the time being, but we need to determine whether they are tests we want to be running and, if so, fix them.

These are well-covered by system tests, so bumping to 0.5.0
