Given the description of an Open Company, seems we're eligible:
What is an open company?
An open company is defined, for the purposes of this list, as a for-profit organization whose core practices are guided by principles of openness, transparency and interoperability. This philosophy can be summarized by the maxim:
Share as much as possible, charge as little as possible.
derived from the original formulation by Gittip (now Gratipay).
In practice, this often means:
- releasing its products as free and open source software, open content, or open source hardware
- using open standards and inter-operable formats
- developing its products openly, using public communication channels
- publishing as much financial and operational data as possible, without compromising customer privacy.
- etc.
The following pages provide a more detailed overview of this concept:
- Open business: Wikipedia article
- Open business: from the P2P Foundation wiki
From their inclusion guidelines, we might have to find the most appropriate pages to direct people to (Openness Pledge & Statement). Possibly the guide itself?
There's currently only one explicit requirement for adding a new company to the list, which is having a page or section on their website describing their commitment to openness and transparency as a core element of the company's operation (rather than as an additional practice parallel to their main business model).
This could be an "about" page, a dedicated "openness"/"transparency" page, a "values" page, or something else along those lines, and should be easily reachable -- either present in the main navigation menu, or otherwise reachable within 1-2 clicks from the home page. See the current list for examples.
Beyond that, the assessment is of course subjective. It can help to try answering the following questions:
- Can this company be described as following the mantra "share as much as possible, charge as little as possible"?
- Do they describe why they strive for openness, not merely how?
- Do they practice several of the (applicable) example criteria described here?
Let's add!
Definitely! Cool find.
Claimed! :)
Added Source{d} to https://github.com/opencompany/awesome-open-company. Created/Merged PR https://github.com/hnarasaki/awesome-open-company/pull/1. @marnovo Is there a way I can create a PR to the Source{d} repo for this for the Source{d} Hacktoberfest?
@hnarasaki That pull request was in your own fork. The point here is adding it to opencompany/awesome-open-company repository.
Anyway, I think this is probably something we'll want to handle internally.
