ios-sdk Streaming Music Like Sonos

The new Spotify iOS SDK relies on having Spotify App installed on a mobile device. However Sonos app is capable of streaming Spotify music without using Spotify App.

May we know how Sonos app achieved it or if it is in any special arrangement with Spotify that allows them to stream without Spotify App, please?

There was a previous version of this SDK that included support for directly streaming audio, but they took this away in 2018. I was one of several who pleaded with them to put this back, but they said they have no plans of doing so. =( https://github.com/spotify/ios-sdk/issues/133 Edit: Most recently reaffirmed in https://github.com/spotify/ios-sdk/issues/232

That said, Sonos is a major smart-speaker brand and has been partnering with Spotify for years. I haven't messed with them in a while, but to play from the speakers they're likely using the Spotify Embedded SDK to stream it directly. If the app actually does stream and it plays from your phone, wouldn't surprise me that they've worked out a deal with Spotify.
