Distribution packaging
Over at at reuse-tool we're looking into adopting this library for the SPDX handling. As reuse-tool is present in many distributions, we have to be considerate to our distribution packaging maintainers when adopting new dependencies.
At the moment python:spdx-tools is only packaged for NixOS and FreeBSD. This is a practical barrier to adoption which might be a concern for other projects too.
I hope this issue will motivate distribution packaging and can help coordinating it.
I can do the Fedora packaging for this. Not sure when I'll have time, but feel free to poke me when it comes to Fedora.
Ah, interesting. We have not yet thought about maintaining packages on top of pip. Good to know that this is right now blocking adoption. We will discuss that in our next weekly sync.
This is connected to #201, which could be superseded by this more general issue.
