No sound on 4.1.1

I tried to use an old tablet with IntentRadio. The tablet in on Android 4.1.1 - I am able to get IntentRadio to work (I can see its status as playing) but there is no sound/output. Tested to various stations including the default BBC one. The moment I switch to some other application (for example VLC) with the same station/URL, I get the sound output working fine. Tried removing IntentRadio and reinstalling it - the same- no sound.
