PS3 Yosemite/Mavericks

The PS3 controller works on Mac Mavericks, but it looks like the PS3 bluetooth pairing support in the IOBluetoothHIDDriver was removed in Yosemite

Hmm. Well that explains why I spent an hour trying to get a PS3 controller to bind but couldn't. It didn't seem to work over USB either. I thought maybe the controller I used was just bad. It was borrowed from a friend where it had been sitting unused in a box for a year.

Any workaround for this?

The PS4 uses the same USB <-> bluetooth pairing protocol (daemon) and my PS4 controller binds on Yosemite just fine. I'll check with an actual PS3 controller when I get home tonight.

The PS3 controller works with steam games(using Bluetooth) but it doesn't show in the Bluetooth explorer. I tried 2 different PS3 controllers they both did the same thing. I adjusted your work by adding the PS3 vid and pid, still wouldn't recognize on Yosemite. I'm working on it! I'll let you know!

If it doesn't show up when the USB cable is connected you may have a power only USB cable; Try a different one. Download and run this: https://developer.apple.com/library/mac/samplecode/HID_Calibrator/Introduction/Intro.html.
