Auto-increment port

We had a PR to add auto-incrementing of the port. I'm not going to take it for technical reasons, but the question remains as to whether this is a feature we need. I'm ambivalent, but would welcome views from the community. Let me know

It would be interesting to obtain the port through an environment variable, making it easier to deploy in Docker
