Bug description

Signal Desktop contacts not syncing. Was referred to Signal Android page by the issue posted here: https://github.com/signalapp/Signal-Desktop/issues/6975, since the pull request is sent from the desktop app to the phone, and the phone does the syncing.

Steps to reproduce

  • Open Signal Desktop
  • Click Settings
  • Click Chats
  • Click Import contacts

Actual result:: Eventually times out with a failure message. See screenshot below

Expected result: : Contacts should reflect names and contact photos matching my Google contacts.

Thanks, looks like your primary device was having some network issues that cascaded into a bunch of retires to sync contacts, which resulted in getting rate limited. I'm working with the server team and will see if we can tweak some stuff.

For now, ensure you have good internet on your primary device and can try again.

Internet connection is solid. I also ensured that I turned off all egress filtering, turned off Umbrella DNS and SIG proxy, and all other network impediments. Have also tried on both WiFi and 5G.

So, still having this problem. Tried from more than one network. Any ideas?

Hey, we have a potential fix for this issue that should target either 7.15.x or 7.16.x.
