Contributor Guidance

Open drichardson opened this issue 6 years ago • 1 comments

This is a request to add information about contributing to HoudiniEngineForUnreal.

At the moment, there isn't any information about contributing, and the presence of the many version branches makes it difficult to know which, if any, should be contributed to.

I propose a brief contributor guide to answer the following questions:

  1. Are contributions accepted?
  2. How should contributions be submitted: Github Pull Request, SideFX RFE, e-mail patch?
  3. What git branch(s) should contributions be submitted against?

Hi Doug,

Thank you for wanting to contribute to the Unreal plugin. We do accept contributions, and PR from Github are indeed welcome.

I periodically check them and will port them to our codebase, as long as they are not too specific, or do not seem to have any major possible side effect.

As for the version to use for the PR, the best would be to submit it for a branch that is still active. (for now, H17.5 and UE4.23 / 4.22).

Due to the way our git repo is setup (it is updated automatically everyday from our internal svn repo), I cant directly use the PR, but must port it to our codebase for ALL the versions of UE4 and Houdini that we support.

When that's done, I'll close the PR and add a link to it in the revision's comment.

I'll close this issue when proper contributions guidance has been added to our readme.
