Language Selector on Front Page

Open jaschaurbach opened this issue 5 years ago • 1 comments

This is a great project, so first I want to thank you!

I have the following language issue:

  • Some definitions are not only in English but in French, German or other languages available. If there is a definition in another language is not possible to see from the front page.
  • Non English speakers will not find the Definition in their language as they find not the entry. Example: Englisch "crazy", German "verrückt", French "fou"
  • Non-english speakers might be deterred as they can not see that there are definitions in a language they can read.
  • Possible contributors might think that they only can contribute in English and not in a language they are able two rite in.

Thanks for consideration!

@herrurbach Thanks for opening this issue! It's definitely something I'd like to have added, but we just don't have the infrastructural support to create this internationalisation yet.

We're starting with individual word translations as it's a lower barrier to entry. Long term, though, our hope is that the entire dictionary core is translated into those additional languages so that the user has a more fluid experience as you suggest.

If you're interested in opening a PR to set any or all of this in motion, I'd love to support you in whatever way I can!
