Outline UI deviations

Open dixonge opened this issue 4 years ago • 3 comments

I'm finding a few things I find non-intuitive based on other editors.

  1. When expanding a headline to show sub-items, the wedge does not rotate to point down. This is just me being a UI nerd, but it bugs me. I'm used to rotation. I do see that it turns grey when expanded. This does not work in dark mode, FYI.
  2. I just noticed that in the Change Notes doc some of the top-level headlines are arrows, not wedges. What is the difference?
  3. The arrow behavior is VERY unintuitive to me. I expect right-arrow to expand the current item, left to collapse. Up and down arrows I expect to simply navigate up and down at the current level. I'm constantly frustrated, which forces me to use the trackpad and click everything. It is annoying (to me). Cmd-, isn't something I can do without looking at the keyboard and moving my hand position. I can do arrow keys all day without looking.

I may be the only one bugged by these things, just throwing it out there for consideration.

@dixonge for 2. above, I think you are seeing the > which signifies a separate outline that has been included into that outline.

The include function is at the bottom of the File set of functions.

Ah! OK, thanks for that.

It would be nice if the twisties would actually twist to indicate the status.

Related, I opened the release notes and did not realize some of the nodes had subitems because there was no twistie in front, but another icon.
