Evaluate performance improvements to MI tasks

Multi instance tasks with large numbers of instances introduce performance issues similar to the ones involving joins and subprocesses referenced in https://github.com/sartography/SpiffWorkflow/pull/398 . Similar changes should improve performance here as well.
