Compatibility with Python >= 2.6

Hi there,

In our project we have to use python-bert library, which relies on python-erlastic one, which in turn is not compatible with Python 2.x. I've made it compatible mainly by using six library.

If there are any problems with this pull request, please let me know, I would be more than happy to amend it.
